Plainfield High School Football Playoffs Kick Off Amid Community Excitement

Cardinals Begin Postseason Journey with Renewed Energy

Plainfield High School's football team has embarked on the 2025 playoffs, igniting enthusiasm throughout the community.

The Cardinals commenced their postseason on November 1, facing off against Piscataway High School in a challenging first-round matchup.

Despite a valiant effort, Plainfield fell short, concluding the game with a 29-14 loss.

This outcome brings their season record to 4-6, marking a year of both growth and challenges.

Under the leadership of first-year head coach Donald Jones, a Plainfield alumnus and former NFL wide receiver, the team has shown significant development.

Jones's return to his alma mater has been met with widespread support, as he aims to instill a winning culture within the program.

The season began with a historic shift: the traditional Thanksgiving Day game against Westfield High School, a rivalry dating back to 1899, was moved to the season opener on August 28.

This change was necessitated by the expanded NJSIAA state playoffs, which now commence in early November.

Looking ahead, the state finals are scheduled between November 28 and December 3, with venues including MetLife Stadium and Rutgers University.

While the Cardinals' playoff journey has concluded, the community remains optimistic about the program's future under Jones's guidance.

As the postseason progresses, local fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming matchups and the potential for neighboring teams to advance.

For those interested in attending the state finals, tickets are available through official channels, offering an opportunity to witness the culmination of New Jersey high school football's 2025 season.

Stay tuned for further updates as the playoffs unfold, and join us in supporting our local athletes as they strive for excellence on the field.
