On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the Plainfield community gathered at Plainfield High School to honor the life of Connor Oldfield.
The 19-year-old, who had been missing since late January, was found deceased on February 19 in the Green Brook area near the Roosevelt Avenue bridge.
The event, attended by hundreds, featured heartfelt tributes from family, friends, and community leaders. Reverend Lester Martin of the Rose of Sharon Community Church led the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of unity and remembrance.
Connor's sister, Chelsea, shared touching memories of their bond, highlighting his protective nature and their shared experiences. She vowed to honor his legacy, stating, "I will now and forever make it my mission to protect his name and legacy."
Plainfield Police Director James Abney expressed the department's deep commitment during the search for Connor, noting the emotional impact on the officers involved. He emphasized the community's collective grief and the importance of supporting the Oldfield family during this difficult time.
